Downtown shopping districts are becoming ghost towns as business either close down or move to greener pastures. Small towns across the USA are loosing their residents to big cities. The innovation of farm equipment has created economic change resulting in the need for less manual labor, creating an environment where the family farm no longer needs the family. Family members leave home and move to the cities seeking better employment and opportunity.

Many small towns had supporting industries and retail business that enhanced the quality of life of the inhabitants. To add insult to injury most if not all of these industries moved away or closed down because of the inability to compete with foreign labor.
